Lakshya Sen stuns Jonatan Christie to advance in Paris Olympics men's singles

Lakshya overcame a six-point deficit to win the game and hold off Christie in the last minutes after trailing by six points in the first game

On Wednesday, India's Lakshya Sen defeated Indonesia's third-seeded player Jonatan Christie in straight games to advance to the men's singles Round of 16 at the Paris Olympics.

Lakshya overcame a six-point deficit to win the game and hold off Christie in the last minutes after trailing by six points in the first game.

Sen, 22, maintained his composure under duress and made a fantastic shot during a crucial rally to stop Christie's momentum.

In the rally, Sen displayed an incredible behind-the-back near-forehand stroke. The 22-year-old from Almora, a 2021 world championships bronze medallist, displayed great maturity and tactical acumen to outwit Christie, the reigning All England and Asian champion, 21-18 21-12 in what turned out to be a lop-sided contest.

Sen will now play the victor of Group K, which will be determined by the match between Vietnam's Le Duc Phat and his countryman HS Prannoy.
